Shimizu: “The word ‘ecological’ includes the recognition of the ‘connection’ that people are connected to the various ecosystems and inorganic substances of the earth. The word “mindfulness” means to be aware of this connection. In Japanese, it means “to be aware of connections.
Especially in the city, it is easy to misunderstand that humans are isolated beings, creating everything on their own, and therefore feel unconnected and unconnected to anything. Fish are usually sold as sashimi, so we don’t have the opportunity to think about the fish beyond that point, or the story of the sea that lies beyond that point. In reality, however, we humans are completely dependent on the ecosystem. We don’t see it when we are in the city, but we are part of the ecology, benefiting from the sea that nurtures the fish, and we are actually benefiting from the mines that are used to build buildings and structures.
The destruction is already extraordinary and cannot be allowed to continue. From now on, we humans are the ones who depend on ecology, so we must make all our decisions with ecology in mind. Our mission is to spread this kind of thinking as ecological mindfulness.”
