“Get Ready” Zen Experience in a Sauna

It is said that Zen has a trance state in which the sense in the body of “Makai” (which is considered to be an evil idea like the Dark Force) has become keen.

It seems that something like light actually appears on the retina, but there is a theory that it is just a firing phenomenon of the visual cortex in the brain.

And the same thing can be reproduced by a sauna.
I have never reached that level, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to try and put yourself in a trance state (universal state) that will give you a feeling of affirmation in this time of pandemic.

According to medical doctor, Eichiro Ishi (International University of Health and Welfare Hospital Internal Medicine professor),

“It has been reported since 30 years ago of the possibility of psychological effects and psychological effects of sauna bathing. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that the actions of serotonin, oxytocin, and β-endorphins in the blood are linked to the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.

It also affects your immune system, so you may be less likely to catch a cold. This may also lead to traditional kanpu masatsu (dry towel friction) rubbing and traditional medical treatments where monks practice waterfalls to prevent illness and colds.

Modern medicine focuses on this as a mechanism of correlation between the nervous system, the endocrine system, and the immune system. ” (translated from original Japanese text).

・β-endorphin: Has analgesic and anxiety-reducing effects like morphine used in cancer treatment
・Oxytocin: the effect of relieving stress and bringing happiness
・Serotonin: the effect of improving the state of depression and stabilizing one’s mental state

“Balance” in the “sauna” is the same effect as “enlightenment” in zen.
