Lecture by Atsushi Fukuda on “In Order to Survive in Post-COVID Okinawa”
“Okinawa has the potential to become a role model in the post-COVID world.
It is imperative that we think from the perspective of establishing an economic zone centered around Okinawa in the East Asian region if we are hoping for a giant leap in the tourism industry.
(Omitted) This era which we are living in is in the midst of an industrial revolution via the Internet. I think we should start off by recognizing that. The COVID-19 pandemic then came to the shores of Okinawa. There were many problems that erupted and Okinawa suffered damage financially, but it is crucial that we look to the future and take a positive view of the current situation. We can say that COVID-19 taught us about “real value” once again despite how awful it is.
In that sense, the location of Okinawa makes it easier to understand real value as it possesses a “physical feel” that other urban areas do not have when it comes to regional connections and communication. That is where you can find the potential of the things that can be done post-COVID”
The interview was held in the middle of summer on August 14! How nasty!
