NHK Nichiyo Bijutsukan: “Just the way they are—The Secret of Okyo” Maruyama Okyo, Renowned Painter of the Edo Period feat. Japanese Ink Artist Shukou Tsuchiya

NHK Nichiyo Bijutsukan: “Just the way they are—The Secret of Okyo”-Broadcasted in November 2019

In 2016, I created the world’s first dedicated VR Art Gallery in Tokyo.
The Japanese Ink Painter Shukou Tsuchiya has utilized VR technology to recreate the works of the renowned Edo-period painter Maruyama Okyo.

“Thoroughly observe and recreate that what is in front of you.” This was the basis of Okyo’s approach to drawing from nature.

And as Shukou Tsuchiya traces one of Okyo’s masterpieces, the national treasure “Yukimatsu-zu Byobu,” using VR Art Brushes… we find that Okyo’s pine trees incredibly become three dimensional. He had captured the three-dimensional shape of the pine trees to perfection in his paintings!
