Notice from “Non” about the participation of Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, as a torchbearer.
NON was scheduled to participate as a runner in the torch relay in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, but in light of the recent spread of the new coronavirus and the extension of the state of emergency declaration in various areas, we have decided to withdraw our participation after discussions with the Kuji City Office and with NON herself.

I have an announcement for everyone.
We wanted to participate in the torch relay in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, and share our energy with the people of Iwate and all of Japan!
However, due to the recent spread of the new coronavirus variant, and in light of the extended state of emergency declared in Tokyo, where I live, as well as in other parts of Japan, after much thought and consultation with the Kuji City Office, I have decided to withdraw from the event.
I thought and worried until the very last minute that my running in Iwate Prefecture, my second hometown, might alleviate this difficulty with you all, even if only a little. However, it is not my intention now if my going to Iwate will cause you anxiety and worry.
I am truly sorry to the people of Kuji City, who are still going through a difficult adjustment, and to all those who were looking forward to my running. I was really looking forward to running in Kuji, a city I love, so this decision was not an easy one to make. Please understand.
I will definitely visit Kuji City on the day when the Corona is over and we can share our joy with everyone.
We sincerely hope for the safety and success of everyone who will serve as torchbearers in Kuji City.
