At Mr. Naoki Inose’s birthday party, we met up with Soichiro Tahara for the first time in 36 years!
Naoki Inose’s birthday party!
Congratulations!
ENEKO TOKYO’s too-perfect three-density measures made me feel comfortable to participate.
The party was attended by eminent members such as Yoichi Ochiai, Soichiro Tahara, Hiroshi Sakurai, chairman of Otters, and Kenzo Matsui, president of Pourio Corporation, which also manages ENEKO.
The party was beautifully organized by wife and artist Yuki Ninagawa, who was very attentive. That’s what I’m talking about!
I have been a rather avid reader even before I got to know Mr. Naoki Inose.
He has read all of his major works, including “The Emperor’s Shadow Man” (1983), “Portrait of the Mikado” (1986), “The Media of Desire” (1990), and “The Archaeology of News” (1992), as well as his recent works, “Japan: A Study of Anxiety” and “Public.
In particular, I still recommend media professionals to read “The Media of Desire. If you have not read this book, you cannot talk about the current Japanese TV media and entertainment.

Also, at this party I got to meet Soichiro Tahara for the first time in 36 years! When I was a college student at NICHIGEI, I took a journalism class, and Mr. Tahara regularly gave lectures. I was the organizer of the first one, and as a nervous 19-year-old, I went to Mr. Tahara’s house in Shakujii Park to negotiate the fee. I still remember his first words at the first class.
Are you guys in love?” It was. We were all aghast, but you can’t be a journalist if you don’t care about people! I thought that was what he meant.
Also, a short time later, I was working on a new show for TV Asahi, and I needed 100 college students (audience members sitting in the back) to show up by tomorrow! I was asked to work part-time, and I succeeded in gathering them in one night. That was the first “Live TV till Morning”. The fee for the students who came was a McBurger and 2,000 yen in cash, and I received 20,000 yen for gathering 100 people.
Come to think of it, I guess I was better suited to be a businessman than a journalist from then on (laughs).
Naoki Inose’s birthday party was a party full of intellectual excitement.
