NONN will be reading from Kanae Minato’s “Mirai” on Amazon’s online radio station, audible. The timing of distribution will be announced at a later date.
Voice services have become a worldwide hit in the wake of the pandemic. Spotify has been acquiring famous podcasts one after another, and in Japan, the number of “nadarazoku” (entertainment that can be enjoyed while doing something) is increasing, such as Voicy and YouTube being converted to radio. There is a need not only for “music” but also for “drama. Since there is plenty of music available on subscriptions, perhaps that is no longer enough for them. (I know this may not make sense to young people, so I’ll explain. In my day, the only way to listen to the music you wanted to listen to was to save up your allowance for a few months or buy a record that cost 2,500 yen.)
Japan originally had an AM radio culture, so the “chatting” field was popular, such as “All Night Nippon” and long-running programs in Osaka. Dramas were made with interesting science fiction shorts such as FM’s “Sound Bookshelf,” which was broadcast in stereo and featured amazing voice actors.
American radio talk is mainly music played by a DJ with a pleasant voice, the opposite of the Japanese image of 80% talk and 20% music. So, when I was a college student, I asked an acquaintance of mine to record a cassette tape of this FM station in Hawaii for a long time when he went to Hawaii. and it was fashionable to listen to it in my car! It was like that. However, with the pandemic in the U.S., the amount of time spent at home and in the car has increased dramatically, and podcasts of popular comedians and audible dramas have become popular against the backdrop of online penetration.
The fact that Amazon has begun to produce full-fledged dramas featuring “Nonn” and other well-known actors should be a great stimulus to the Japanese market. We hope that Japanese radio stations will get excited about this.
… So, please enjoy the audio drama “Mirai” ( original by Kanae Minato) starring Nonno!
