Palm Springs is home to vacation homes used by Hollywood stars of yesteryear for summer retreats and mid-century modern buildings from the 1960s designed by famous architects, including Frank Sinatra’s vacation home and Elvis Presley’s honeymoon house. Today, the city has been made to reflect fashionable and tasteful gay people, making it popular among the young as well as the retired rich.

This time, since it was a three-day weekend for Labor Day, I went to a hot spring hotel in Palm Springs for the first time in three years. Surprisingly, Palm Springs is a hot spring resort.

Until the end of the 19th century, it was a residential area of the indigenous people called the Kauiya. It was called “Seki,” a word for “hot spring” in their language. Hot springs played an important role in the area. The name “Palm + Springs” came about because it is a winter resort with hot springs and a unique atmosphere lined with palm trees.

Although summers can be extremely hot, with temperatures topping 40 degrees Celsius, this land of clear skies 360 days out of the year attracts many visitors, especially in the fall and winter months, in search of warmth. And the Coachella is right around the corner!

Well, the fun is just beginning!
