Behind the scenes of the art exhibition: MR. BRAINWASH exhibition composed by DDAA (Shinsaibashi PARCO)

Behind the scenes of the art exhibit.
DDAA” was the venue for Los Angeles-based artist MR. BRAINWASH’s “LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL” exhibition (November 20-December 6, 2020), which was held at the Shinsaibashi PARCO opening last year.
DDAA, headed by Daisuke Motoki, is an organization that conducts experimental design and research based on architectural thinking that spans multiple fields, including architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, interior design, and products.
This time, the very historic Daimaru’s North Building was renovated and transformed into the new PARCO, but the place where the exhibition was to be held was a wooden structure like an action, not a very white cube for an art exhibition.
The result was a wonderful venue that dynamically showcased the diverse styles of MR.
During the process, miniatures of the venue were made and the content was discussed many times. For the Los Angeles artist management tots who could not come to Japan due to the Corona disaster, a smartphone was used as a visitor to share information, with English commentary each time.
Recently, it has become easy to create perspectives based on 3DCG. If art exhibitions can be managed with software such as BIM data, as is the case with architecture, it will be possible to reproduce wonderful traveling exhibitions in various locations.
