Yuriko Yayanaga’s art is uniquely highbrow and unique.
As soon as the texture of a realistic oil painting was eliminated to the utmost limit, it was expressed on an electronic substrate!
It appears to be exploring a new perspective for the 21st century.
Born in 1991, Yayanaga is a typical millennial who has had the Internet for as long as she can remember.

In 2012, he entered Kyoto City University of Arts, where he majored in oil painting and continued to paint, but he really wanted to give his paintings a texture that suited the modern age.
At that time, I programmed the work on a “Raspberry Pi” (an electronic circuit board developed in the U.K. in 2012 for educational purposes), which the teacher told me about, and projected the images on a small monitor, and it felt right.
The images were also made up at first, but that would be no different from oil paintings, so they began to pursue a more untextured digital expression.

He had attached a frame to the finished work monitor, but he did not want it to look like a painting, and gradually transformed it into a work with bare wiring and monitor.
I thought it would be more interesting if I dared to use old paint tools so that the dots would stand out. He believes that “the lack of texture is the texture of digital.

Recently, the motif has been utilizing images picked up from the Internet. They are interestingly using poor quality photos taken by individuals with cell phones, which look like images for sale on Mercurys.

I find a huge number of images on the Internet and combine them together to paint. Sometimes I paint free-form mental landscapes, but I think it’s interesting to use images from the Internet for that as well.”

He values thorough network processing, even taking his own photos, giving them up online once and then downloading and using them.
What Yanaga sees is probably an expression of reality via the myriad brains that come and go on the Internet.

Yanaga’s art is very avant-garde and unparalleled.
We would like to have an art exhibit next month, a special Tokyo exhibit at Speedy Gallery.
