Corona Kouhou : Recommendation to learn from artist Morihiro Hosokawa
Is this a photo from the first issue of “Eating Log Magazine” (interviewed on December 20, 2016), when I had the opportunity to speak with former Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa? I’m ゙ing it!
This black-and-white photo was taken by photographer Hiro Kimura.
At dinner after the shoot, I was told that Mr. Hosokawa spends almost every day at “Butoan” in Yugawara to make art.
He says that he has been living a “sunny” life for nearly 20 years.
One year after our conversation, on November 4, 2017, I happened to meet Mr. Hosokawa again at the Kyoto gallery “Antique Yanagitaka” and he gave me a Shigaraki ware piece.
This led to a meeting the following month at the spacious studio of Mr. Morihiro Hosokawa in central Tokyo.
At that time, he was working on a mural for the Jion-den Hall of Yakushiji Temple (subject “Fusion of East and West,” a grand project measuring approximately 160 meters in length and taking approximately five years to complete), which was completed two years later in the spring of 2019.
Waiting for the right moment, we hope to introduce Mr. Hosokawa’s wonderful sliding door paintings and ceramic works overseas.
