Private Villa Okinawa Hyakuna (THE VILLA Okinawa): Plant hunter Seijun Nishibatake checks the garden!
Mr. Seijun Nishibatake, a plant hunter (a profession that collects amazing plants from all over the world), came to visit us at his villa in Okinawa!
The building is almost complete, but the garden is completely untouched. This time, they looked around in detail and decided to do the construction as well as give us great advice. What you have is a friend.
First, the basic idea. “Back to Nature’s Forest.”
Many natural areas are being destroyed all over the world because of the structures that we humans have built without our permission. Incidentally, our villa was on a cliff, so there was almost no natural greenery…. When architects follow their clients’ wishes, they cannot see the environment other than the building itself. That is why there is a discrepancy between the building and the environment after the project is completed.
Mr. Seijun once gave a lecture at the “Monology Study Group” organized by Mr. Masayuki Kurokawa. He asked the assembled architects, “When you design a building, do you design from the building? When you design a building, do you design from the building? Or do you design from the natural environment? It was clear that Mr. Seijun’s thoughts were packed into this question.
The earth is 4 billion years old and man is 500 million years old. Human dwellings are too tiny and undignified in front of the grandeur of nature. The main idea would be to rent a good space in the midst of nature and greenery. Therefore, we must not forget the feeling that we are allowed to live in nature.
Spend a day at the Okinawa Villa and you will begin before sunrise with countless birds singing, the leaves of the forest shimmering in the sea breeze, and the night with the twinkling stars. You feel nature and become one with it.
That should be THE VILLA Okinawa.
I can’t just plant a palm tree that looks like Hawaii and get all excited. I will take a few years to grow a banyan tree and a day glory to be able to play with them.
Please look forward to the finished product.
