The film “Ribbon” (scheduled for release in 2022) has been selected for the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival as a Special Screening in the GALA section and will be an official selection.

Launched in 1993 and now in its 24th year, the Shanghai International Film Festival is an international film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (Paris, France) and is one of the 12 largest film festivals in Asia.

Of the approximately 500 films screened from around the world, only a few will be further selected for the GALA section.

This will be the first time that “Ribbon” will be screened at the festival, and it will have its world premiere in Shanghai. NON is scheduled to appear with a video message before the screening.

Winter 2020. Due to the Corona disaster, the graduation project, which took a year to complete, loses its place for presentation. I have time at home, but I don’t feel like doing anything. ……
Actress Non plays the role of “Someday”, an art student who is deprived of the art of expression and struggles to find what she is supposed to do. This is a story of “rebirth” in which NON painfully breaks through the depressing situation with her own power.

The special effects team includes “Shin Godzilla” director and special effects supervisor Shinji Higuchi and associate director and special effects supervisor Katsuro Onoe!

The “expression of emotion through ribbon art,” a NON idea, is also noteworthy. Colorful ribbons are used to express the various emotions of the main character. The ribbons, which are sometimes sharp and sharp and sometimes dance gracefully, were created by the splendid team of “Shin Godzilla” director and special effects supervisor, Shinji Higuchi, and associate director and special effects supervisor, Katsuro Onoe. The ribbon special effects are a masterpiece of special effects expression.

In 2020, the world is in trouble in Corona.
Movies, live music performances, plays, art exhibitions, and various other forms of entertainment were deemed unnecessary and cancelled. It was as if entertainment had been identified as “unnecessary for life.
How should we take this? As I was spending time at home after the first emergency was declared, I decided to make a film that would reaffirm that entertainment has been and will continue to be a necessary part of our lives.

Around the same time, I was shocked to read an interview with an art college graduate who said that he was unable to exhibit the artwork he had spent a year creating and that it made him feel as if his work was trash. I linked this to my own frustration and wrote it into the script.

The film “Ribbon” is about art students in the Corona disaster, but I believe it is the story of all students around the world who have faced this terrible situation.

I am truly happy that the film I made with this in mind will be screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
