CONCEPT:
This series of works relates to a dream that Moeko Maeda had in January 2021. After a long hike to a local waterfall, she heard a deep voice in her dream. ‘Open the lid of the volcanic mouth within you, erupt. Create a path.” Immediately after the earth-shaking voice, she felt a magma-like energy flow through her entire body, unclogging her insides. Then countless hands of light gently caressed me from head to toe. This experience led to the creation of these works. Salt, water, soil, lava, pigments, and sap are layered little by little under sunlight and moonlight, and crystals are born with the passage of time. By confronting these works, she has taken a new step into the world of color and expanded her activities.
May each of us connect to our own axis, let our inner volcano erupt, build our own foundation, and live our lives with the light of the life force we have received.

Concept :
For the third performance of a series, Maeda will pray for three days, pacing in meditation, sewing raw silk into her painting and tying strands of her hair to the thread. In 2021, inspiration for the exhibition began from a dream of “Volcanic Energy” which erupts profound sentiment within us. Her intention is to remove blockages and be in harmonic flow for us all to carry light. On the finale of her performance and the beginning of the exhibition, February 18th, 2023 from 5:00-8:00pm, Maeda will have her head shaved to gratefully release what no longer resonates with us.
“May we connect to our center, let our inner volcano erupt, create our own foundation and allow ourselves to live our lives with the light of our inner life force that we have received.”
