Nonaka Tomoyo
Representative of the NPO Gaia Initiative, full member of the Club of Rome, and visiting professor at Chubu University. He has been active as a journalist reporting on trends in international society from the front lines, including “Overseas Weekly” and “Sunday Sports Special” on NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) since 1979, and as the main anchor of “World Business Satellite” on TV Tokyo. He was the local main anchor for the 1988 Seoul Olympics (including coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies) and the local main anchor for the 1999 NHK Sanitation 2 broadcast of the U.S. Academy Awards ceremony in L.A. He has also served as the local main anchor for Asahi Breweries, Nippon Broadcasting Co. After serving on the boards of Asahi Breweries, Nippon Broadcasting System, Nihon Unisys, Nikko Financial Intelligence, and other companies, he became Chairman of Sanyo Electric Co. In 2007, he founded the Gaia Initiative, a non-profit organization, which advocates that human beings should act as members of “Gaia,” the life form of the earth. He has also served on the Finance System Council and the Legislative Council of the Japanese Government. He has been a member of the Fiscal System Council, the Legislative Council, the Central Council for Education, the Okinawa Promotion Council, the Cabinet Office for Special Zones for Structural Reform, the Education Evaluation Committee, and other government councils, and was awarded the Flower Prize of the Economic World Award in 2001 and the Academia Award of the Japan Academic Society for Social Science in 2018. He is the author of “We ‘Earthlings'” (Shueisha), “How to Live Connecting Hearts and Minds” (Sanmark Publishing), and “Tegoiteiru Onna (Watashi) no Seimei ga Hajimari Hon (A Book to Start Your Life)” (Sanmark Publishing).
