I will produce a solo exhibition of Hideki Kimura, aka Keeyan, at POLA Museum Annex Ginza.
What a surprise, “Reviving Lotus,” an itado commissioned by actress Ki-Kirin Kiki, is on view for the first time!

Keyan has had a unique career as a producer since the dawn of Japanese rock music, and has taken up the brush since his 60th birthday in 2002. Many of his works have been painted on the streets, from the sliding door paintings of Kachoden in Seirenin Monzeki, Kyoto, to murals at Kansai International Airport, Kyoto Zoo, and commercial facilities.

Art exhibitions like this one are a rare opportunity because of Keyan’s commitment to “painting in a ‘live’ city, rather than going to the canvas in the studio.”

The exhibition will feature over 50 new works and past large-scale works such as fusuma-e (sliding door paintings). In addition, for five days from the first day of the exhibition, a live painting of a new work over 3 meters in length will be held.

Hideki Kimura Statement: 81-year-old street painter Graffiti, tattoo or art?
A 5 year old toddler was drawing on the side of the road with chalk and a wax stone. Good! Good! and the crowd gathered at the call of his agitated older sisters. The toddler just, just, just draws life-size pictures all over the place with great skill. And they respond to requests.
That toddler became an art school instructor. Somehow, he became a rock event producer. Street painter
Then, from the year of his 60th birthday, he arrived at being a painter on the street, once again.
It is not Japanese painting, it is not Western painting, it is not design. Start painting a jumbled picture. I dare say it might be Japanese style because I am Japanese and I painted it.

Profile:.
Born in Izumiotsu City, Osaka in 1942. After graduating from Kyoto City University of Arts, Department of Design, he worked as a lecturer at the same university. Produced many legendary events as an organizer in the early days of rock music in Japan. Became a painter from the age of 60. He has created more than 200 murals in Japan and abroad. His life with rock music can be seen in his dynamic paintings. Instead of working on a canvas in his studio, he wants to paint “live” in the city. He is a unique painter who advocates the ultimate in amateurism.
