From VR / AR to XR（Extended Reality）
For those of you who are interested in the newest video entertainment technology.
First, look at artist, Katy Perry singing on a popular American TV program. By the way, this was performed live without any composition.
Katy Perry – Daisies (Live From American Idol Finale, May 17 2020)
Katy Perry is singing live and the camera is rolling. That’s it. Isn’t it amazing?!
Even if XR technology is the same experience type, unlike VR, you don’t need a headset to enjoy huge live performances. It is thought that, due to coronavirus, there is a feeling of uneasiness about hygiene, so events are decreasing usage, and there is an increasing need for XR.
You can use XR in a physical location, so it’s not like an unrealistic CG game, but can express an overwhelming realty. That’s why I believe this is fit for theatre and concerts.
This kind of video is made with green screen composition, but with LED panels while filming in real time. The performer acts in the LED virtual environment, and the mechanism outputs and combines AR from the camera in real time.
XR Studio Composition
a) Virtual environment projected on LED（Motion Graphics Content）
b) Real time AR (Real time composition with camera tracking）
c) Control lighting in according to artist and 3D simulation, creating the illusion of the user’s point of view through the screen
The performer acts in the LED virtual environment, and the mechanism outputs and combines AR from the camera in real time.
All of this information came from Speed’s business partner, Yuko Nakamura at Akuntsu (Montreal, Canada). She also brings in beautiful creativity!
