I will give a numerical explanation of how effective coronavirus resistance is after two doses of the vaccine.

Sorry for the stupid photo…

For now, I’m decorating it with trophies I got in the past for an air of triumph.

Now then, let me give you some numbers to show you how well you can fight the coronavirus after taking two doses of the vaccine (in the case of mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna).

Since the coronavirus is not going away, I would like to give a concrete image of how we can live with it and make it become “just like the flu”.

I took an IgG blood test (spiked protein antibody = neutralizing antibody) to see how much antibodies (i.e., protection rate) I had after vaccination. The results are as follows.

Jun Fukuda’s antibody titer (two weeks after second dose): 25,000 AU/mL (AU = Arbitrary Unit)

The standard value indicating the presence of antibodies is 4,160 AU/mL, but the standard for FDA-approved (FDA-EUA) vaccines is actually 840 AU/mL or higher, meaning this is the minimum level required to protect against the coronavirus.

Average antibody titer among Japanese

14 days after first dose: 1,000 AU/mL

7 days after second dose: 22,000 AU/mL

Average antibody titer among those traveling to the US

After one dose: 2,217 AU/mL

After two doses: 6,396 AU/mL

The standard value indicating the presence of antibodies is 4,160 AU/mL (high effectiveness), but the standard for FDA-approved (FDA-EUA) vaccines is actually 840 AU/mL or higher, meaning this is the minimum level required to protect against the coronavirus.

In addition, future data analysis is needed to determine the extent to which antibody titers will decrease from the peak, or whether the antibodies will be remembered and continuously produced by the body.

If we assume that it is cut in half after six months, then the protection lasts for two and a half years: 25,000 → 12,500 → 6,250 → 3,125 → 1,562 → 781

Even if the antibody titer decreases, the body still has immunological memory through cellular immunity, so it is thought that booster shots will not be needed too frequently.

Moderna has suggested that people who have received two doses of the vaccine may be safe from infection if additional booster shots for mutated strains are given, and that the vaccine may also become “just like the flu vaccine.”

Let’s get a vaccine!
